Composite materials product and process development
Related to composite materials, Boreas NT develops for its Customers both the required products as well as all the additional technologies required for them (moulds, manufacturing processes, testind and quality control procedures, etc). Usually, all the works in this field do not finish with a design. Rather than that, manufacturing processes, moulds required, and some prototypes are always included in the work. Besides that, additional consultancy work about diferrent commercial possibilities of producing the parts, machinery existing in the market, and quality control issues is usually dones. In some occassions, even Boreas NT can supply the parts to the Customer.
In some other occassions, the definition and development of specific machinery for the requirements of the customer (sizes, batches, quality,etc) has also been performed.
The most common materials used in the works of Boreas NT are:
- Carbon fiber
- Glass fiber
- Aramid (Kevlar) fiber
- Different fillers
- Termoset matrices (polyester, vinylester, epoxy)
- Termoplastic matrices (Nylon, PEEK, PA, etc.)
A common problem when dealing with composite materials is how to perform joints. Boreas NT has a great experience in the design of many different kinds of joints including both adhesive as mechanical (with many kinds of mechanical fasteners) joints. Depending on the application and the kind of materials included in the joints, Boreas NT can perform the design, protype, testing and certification of the solution proposed. Ageing chambers are used to ensure also long term behaviour of the joint.
